Noun Matriculation 2012

NO fewer than 400 students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Owerri, Imo State Study Centre, recently took their oath of matriculation in various disciplines spanning the Schools of Post graduate Studies; Business and Human Resources Management; Education; Law; and Science and Technology at the fifth matriculation ceremony of the institution.
A counselor at the centre, Mrs. Ettu, who represented the Registrar of the institution, Mrs. Josephine O. Akinyemi, administered the oath on the students.
At the short but impressive ceremony, which took place at the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri Pavilion, the new Vice Chancellor, Prof.Vincent Ado Tenebe, represented by the Owerri Study Centre Manager of the institution, Prof. Ken Mezieobi, noted that the university, through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) had been restructured to serve the standards required to equip any beneficiary in any part of the world educationally according to the field so chosenby the individual.
The idea of the ODL, the Vice Chancellor said, was to offer opportunity to willing but discriminated against people by time and space in the conventional tertiary institutions of learning.
He stated that the Tutorial Facilitation (TF), was designed by the authorities of the institution to assist students overcome their learning difficulties, adding that the Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs) had been put online for easy assessment.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed that the TMA is compulsory for any student to undertake, stressing that it formed part of examination and cumulative scores.
Tenebe urged students to take seriously their Computer Information Technology (CIT) courses, saying that: TMA administration, it is instructive to let you know that they would be graded and recorded as part of your cumulative scores for graduation. In short, you will be required to pass in all your TMAs, if you must finally be said to have passed at your end of term examinations.
The NOUN's boss disclosed further that course materials had been packaged for any bonafide student in self digestable forms - printed or electronic.
